Omfamnad av solnedgången

Embraced by the sunset. English summary under the photos.

English summary

Embraced by the sunset

Yesterday I couldn’t stand it anymore. I have been way too long without my camera and nature.

I spontaneously decided to go to Elfvik and try to catch the setting sun. This despite my having a slight cold and was sort of getting ready for the evening so to speak. I don’t regret it.

The sunset totally devoured me. I felt so small, in the powerful majestic light, but the feeling inside my soul was grand and safe. There and then I forgot about everything else besides this moment. I found that inner peace that only a majestic sunset near the water in Elfvik an evening in March can give me. That is the great thing about nature. It will give you an endless amount of unique moments you never will have again, but each one of them will give you an inner peace that only nature can give you.

It is better than any medication. The healing force of nature.

What do you do to find peace, new energy and inspiration?

En härlig dag helt enkelt

A wonderful day. That’s all. English summary under the photos.

English summary

A wonderful day. That’s all.

What a wonderful Saturday. I had one of my best friends staying over night and we just enjoyed the day. Even though it was Saturday we woke up as early as 7 am and decided we wanted to start the day.

The older I get, the more of a morning person I become. I don’t like sleeping through half the day, instead I want to make the most of it.

We had a long breakfast chatting away about just about everything, as friends do, while the morning was waking up turning into a bright sunny day with a clear blue sky. I was filled with a wonderful sense of spring. A warm feeling inside from the sunlight, that we are so deprived of at this time of the year.

We decided to make some coffee and tea in a thermos and take the car to the water in Elfvik to enjoy the weather.

Only this time of the year the weather is playing tricks with us. It looks warm and springlike from inside. But by the water a heavy northern cold wind was beating us and the water. Brr it was so cold. However we found a spot on the rocky shoreline where the wind didn’t catch us. It was lovely! The sun sparkled energetically, strong and blinding, in the water. As a company we had a swan family swimming around just near us. It was so relaxing – a cup of tea never tastes so good as it does from a thermos cup on a rock a windy day by the sea.

After this we did some shopping and ”fika” in Täby Centrum before we had some more ”fika” at my friend’s place. We love our fikas! We usually do it several times a day when we meet.

I came back home around 8-ish pm and watched Melodifestivalen (Swedish preselection for Eurovision Song Contest) and fell asleep halfway through so I had to look up who made through in the papers. I didn’t miss much.

After this lovely Saturday I still feel energised. It doesn’t take much!

Now I am curious about your weekend. 🙂 And what do you do to feel energised?

Photo project painting with light – water

Time for this week’s photos in Jen’s and my photo poject painting with light. This time I wanted to play with light and water. I have noticed when I shower that the light from the window creates a nice stripe effect on the water from the shower so I decided to play with that. These photos are the result of backlit shower water and variation of shutterspeed, and depth of field, for creating the stripes of water contrasting the square pattern of the background tiles, and having fun in Photoshop to create the colour effects.

These pojects to me is about playing around and having fun and learning by doing and experimenting. For artistic quality I recommend Jen’s photos 😉

Teaser

Today I had the most amazing photo walk in my Elfvik paradise. Even though I only took a couple of photos. The sun sparkles in the water inspried me to film instead of taking photos. This film will be up tomorrow. I am teasing a bit! 😉 Building up suspension. Building up expectations. So you are now at the edge of your seats and expect a masterpiece no less. Right?? 😉

But in all honesty it is just a bunch of clips of ”moving photos” so to speak. I like the addition movement gives to a scene that a still photograph can’t convey. I also like how the film media allows you to edit and add music to the scenes. An extra dimension.

I took some lazy snapshots with the mobile phone when I just wanted a quick photo to document the walk. Taking out the camera and prepare it would take too long, too much trouble, for just plain snapshots.

A popular day at Elfvik! I am sitting in the car waiting for someone to leave. I was lucky. I only waited 5 minutes.

Sun-sparkling water. The most beautiful sight I know.

Elfviks gård. A farm, with an antique shop, café and horses. And hens on the loose, walking around.

Blue sky, blue water, yellow grass waiting to be painted in green.

When you walk along the water around Elfvik (and other places in Lidingö) you realise that the Island really is like the first step into the archipelago. Because of the bridge and closeness to central Stockholm one tend to forget that. I feel privileged to live here in my humble little studio apartment. A roof over my head, food on the table, healthy family and friends and beautifiul surroundings. That’s all I need. ❤

I finish with some camera shots, teasing the video that will come up tomorrow.

Old photos

On my photo walk on Sunday I got lost! So I didn’t get to take as many photos as I wanted and the weather was very dull so the short time I could take photos I could only get a few for Jen’s and my tree project on Thursday. For the project, the ”flat” grey weather worked pretty well though.

I browsed through my folders on my computer and found photos from up to over five years ago. It is fun to look back. Because I can see development! The photos I take now are actually even better than photos I took only a year ago. That makes me so happy to see that I can improve.

I thought I’d show a couple of older photos showing parts of the walk or bike ride to work.

This little red house is situated near the waterline in the little tiny water of Husarviken (couldn’t find an English link but you can see this red house in one of the photos there too 🙂 ). I haven’t been able to walk or cycle that way for several years now. They are building a new large urban area, Norra Djurgårdsstaden, and this pretty sandroad has been cut off because of the construction of this area. I wonder what the road will look like once they are finished and open it up again. I hope they haven’t changed it too much. I loved that little road.

Another part of the walk or bike road to work that I love is the road alongside Lidingöbanan. Especially when you walk down the hill towards the water of Lake Värtan and Lidingöbron – the bridge from Lidingö to Stockholm. You see the bridge here in the background – the photo is taken from the Lidingö side of the bridge so opposite the bridge is Stockholm and Ropsten underground. I also love walking across the bridge. Living near water is essential for me and luckily it is all around me in Stockholm, and of course living on an island! 🙂

This photo is taken at the same time as the one above. I really love this photo – glad I found it again since I had forgotten about it.

But I can really tell I have improved in my photography. Both technically and in ”finding the image” and composing. Hopefully I will continue to improve. Have so much to learn!

The tree project 4 – black and white

Jen’s and my tree project  continues. Last week’s theme was texture in black and white. This week black and white in general. I love black and white photography. It immediately gives the photos a whole new atmosphere about them when you remove colour. I also think that winter time is a good season for black and white because the season offers a graphic element to the landscape that you don’t get the same way during the other seasons. The graphic-”ness” of winter, trees and black and white is a good combination in my eyes.

Ok, so here they come. My two project photos of the week. 🙂

This first one is a winter version of a scene I have posted before in autumn. I like how I find new details the more I look at the photo.

The second one:

I am rather pleased with the photos this time. I am seeing some development… I hope you like them too? If not, are there any tips you can give me that might improve them?

Both of these photos also happen to partly illustrate our next theme. Backlight. I love backlight and want to be able to really use that beautiful light and ambience it gives a photo. Unfortunately the weekend will be cloudy, so we’ll see if I can catch any backlight. Else I guess I have to use some old photos for that theme – but that is not the same. I want to get out there and experiment.

Now, go check out Jen’s photos on her blog. Can’t wait to see hers. I am so excited to see what she made of this theme with her artistic eye!
